Shiva is considered as the mightiest (Mahadev) God of all. He is the Destroyer among the trinity of Gods. He is the ultimate destination for every soul after the life. There are many stories related to Shiva in various Puranas. His wife is known as Parvati or Gauri. She is the Shakti (Power) of Shiva and is the energy element of the whole universe. Parvati was the daughter of Himvan or Himalaya, and meditated for thousands of years. Then She achieved Shiva as Her husband. Lord Ganesha is known to be a Vighna harta or destroyer of obstacles. Every Hindu devotee worships Ganesha first when starting of a puja or a ritual. His wives are Ridhi and Siddhi. Lord Kartikey is the Senapati or General and have six faces. He is God of war and people in South India and Sri Lanka worship him a lot.
Lord Shiva has two forms in which devotees offer their prayers to. First is Shivling form, also known as niraakar form, and second is Shiva idol, which is known as saakar form. Shiva is kind to people who are good in their deeds, and known as Bholenath, but very fierceful for the people who do any kind of wrong to others. He is decorated by Ganges and Moon on His head, third eye on His head, serpent around His neck, His throat is blue due to poison, trishul and damru in his hands, He uses tiger’s skin as asana and His vehicle is Nandi(ox). Shiva’s dancing position- Nataraja form is very famous in the world, and people keep this form of idol in their houses. Parvati, wife of Shiva, is the hidden energy powerhouse behind Shiva. She has another form which is known as Kali or Mahakali, which destroys evil and Rakshasha(demons) and is worshipped by a number of devotees. Shiva and Parvati have two sons- Ganesh and Kartikey. Ganesh have the divine power to destroy any bad time and obstacles. He is worshipped with Goddess Lakshmi to gain prosperity. Ganesh chaturthi is his special day, on this day people offer Him special puja. Kartikey also has special divine powers, which He uses to do good for the mankind. Shiv Parivar should be kept in the alter place or in temple, as this idol brings blessings of all the Shiva family. It creates a positive aura in the house and temple, where it is kept. Creates harmony among family members and diminish all the negative energies from the home or temple.
