Goddess Saraswati is the most prolific of all Hindu deities. She is the very appearance of scholarly learning and musical aptitude. She is depicted with a classical Indian musical instrument in her hand. In fact, in multiple Indian families, Her idol is relieved with a set of books and/or a musical instrument.
She is considered as most peaceful Goddess. With her other two hands, Saraswati plays the music of love and life on a string instrument which is known as veena. She is dressed in white which is a symbol of purity. Her vehicle is white swan, which represents Satwa (purity). Saraswati is worshipped in the form of Manjushri in Buddhist culture. The learned individuals attach great importance to the worship of goddess Saraswati as a symbol of knowledge and wisdom. They trust that only Saraswati can grant them moksha, the final liberation of the soul.
The goddess Saraswati has her own festival notably the Saraswati Puja, held on first day of spring. During the centenary, devotees wear yellow clothes, which is associated with wisdom and prosperity. Statues of the goddess are also draped in yellow, and worshippers pray for blessings on their pens, books, and musical tools. Children are taught to write for the first time during the festival, Brahmins are offered with fine food, and ancestors are venerated. Saraswati is also worshipped along with other goddesses in the festivity of Navaratri. As the patron of music, she is frequently worshipped by musicians before any concert and, as a goddess of intellectual pursuits.
